How To Save Money by Driving An Eco-Friendly Car by Julia Smith

British drivers may find they have the choice of taking out car insurance for a range of different low-emission cars in the future. We may start seeing more green friendly cars in our car parks if a new report is anything to go by.

The Committee on Climate Change has submitted its first suggestions to parliament on how the country is progressing in meeting CO2 reduction targets and it recommended a variety of eco-friendly technologies should be developed in order to make transport greener.

The committee - who are in favour of cars that have green credentials - should be provided to help companies produce more environmentally-friendly petrol and diesel engines, as well as electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell cars.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders welcomed the report.

Chief executive Paul Everitt commented on the report, said, "The Committee recognises that a portfolio of technologies will deliver emissions reductions in the medium-term and that if longer-term targets are to be achieved, that incentives and an integrated approach between industry, fuel companies and government will be crucial for the uptake of electric vehicles.

"Industry, through the work of the New Automotive Innovation and Growth Team, has established a technology roadmap and researched priorities to enable widespread delivery of ultra-low carbon transport solutions," he concluded.

But drivers really should consider buying an eco-friendly motor as low-emission models qualify for cheaper road tax.
